FLOBIT.

Keep tennis and padel score on your Apple Watch

In short

Flobit's Apple Watch app lets you keep score from your wrist: tap each point, undo a mistake, lock the screen against mis-taps and confirm the result, with your iPhone nearby. Points are saved on the watch and sync through your iPhone, so tapping carries on if the phone is out of reach. It also records heart rate and calories as a workout.

What can I do from my Apple Watch?

You can run the match from the wrist while your iPhone is nearby, and the taps are saved if it isn't. Your iPhone picks the match the watch shows: your active match, or else your next dated lobby.

  • Start the match. Tap Start match, then pick who serves or kicks off first on the toss screen, or skip it.
  • Score every point. Each side has a big tap zone. In tennis and padel the watch counts 15, 30, 40, deuce, games, sets and tiebreaks, and follows the serve with the same live scoring rules as the phone.
  • Undo. Swipe left to undo the last point.
  • Lock the screen. Lock it so a sweaty forearm can't change the score, and hold to unlock.
  • Finish and confirm. In basketball, football and ultimate frisbee you submit the final score from the watch when the game ends. In every sport you can confirm the result on the wrist.
  • Read the detail page. A third page shows your heart rate and calories.

The wrist has three pages: controls, the scoreboard and the detail page.

Does Apple Watch scoring work without my phone?

You can keep scoring when the phone is out of reach, but the watch depends on the iPhone app to sync. Every tap is saved on the watch first and applied to the scoreboard at once. The watch sends points to your iPhone as soon as it is in range, and the iPhone passes them to Flobit. If points are waiting, the watch says how many; if the iPhone hasn't confirmed them, it asks you to open Flobit on your iPhone.

Starting the match, undoing a point and confirming the result need the phone to be reachable. If it isn't, the watch tells you it can't do that yet, and you can do it as soon as the phone is back in range. When the phone reconnects, Flobit's copy of the match wins and any unsent taps are replayed on top of it, so an old tap can't overwrite a newer score from another scorer.

Does it track heart rate and calories?

Yes, while you are the one keeping score. Scoring runs inside a workout session on the watch, which records your active calories and heart rate and shows them on the detail page. When the match ends, the workout is saved to Apple Health. Running as a workout also keeps the scoring screen ready when you raise your wrist.

The first time you score, the watch asks for Health access. If you decline, scoring still works and the calories and heart rate simply stay empty. You control what Flobit can read and write in Health in Apple's settings; see Apple's guide to Health permissions. If you don't wear the watch, the iPhone can add an estimated workout instead, and you can switch that off under Apple Health in Flobit's settings.

Workouts are logged for tennis and padel (as tennis), table tennis, basketball, volleyball, football and ultimate frisbee. eFootball is never logged as exercise.

Which sports can I score on the watch?

All of the live sports that are scored as you play, except eFootball.

SportOn the watch
Tennis and padelPoint by point, with games, sets, tiebreaks and the serve
Table tennisGame by game
VolleyballSet by set, with a serve marker
Basketball+1, +2 and +3 buttons, then submit the final score
Football and ultimate frisbeeA running tally, then submit the final score
eFootballResult entered on the iPhone

Submitting a final score needs the phone in range. A tournament Mexicano court is also finished on the phone, because its result is entered there. The watch follows the same permissions as the phone, so it only scores matches you are allowed to score, as a player or as the referee. Everything else uses the same tennis or padel rules as the phone, including the golden point.

How do I set up Flobit on my Apple Watch?

Install Flobit on your iPhone, and the Apple Watch app comes with it. Flobit needs iOS 17 or later on the iPhone and watchOS 10 or later on the watch. Sign in on the iPhone, add the sport to your profile, then start a Quick Match or join a game. Open Flobit on the watch and it picks up the match. While nothing is open, it keeps asking the phone again, every few seconds at first and then less often, so a match you have just started appears shortly.

If the watch says "No match lined up", set the match up on the phone first. If it says "Phone out of reach", bring the phone closer or open Flobit on it. The watch app is available in the same five languages as the iPhone app: English, Azerbaijani, Russian, Turkish and Spanish.

What shows on the iPhone while I score from the watch?

The iPhone mirrors everything. A Live Activity shows the current score on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and watch scoring is relayed through the phone to it. The public live page, which friends can open in any browser, updates with every point. If you turn on spoken score calls, the phone says each point out loud, including the ones you tapped on your watch. The watch itself stays silent.

After the match, the iPhone shows an effort card with your calories. They are measured by your watch when it recorded the workout, and otherwise estimated from your movement and match time. Whoever scores, from the phone or the wrist, sees the same board, so you can hand the scoring from one device to the other.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my phone on court to score on the Apple Watch?

Not to keep tapping points: they are saved on the watch and sent when the iPhone is back in range. You do need the phone reachable to start the match, undo or confirm from the watch, and to sync the score to Flobit. The iPhone app is required.

Does the Apple Watch app count calories?

Yes. While you keep score, a workout session on the watch records active calories and heart rate, shows them on the detail page and saves the workout to Apple Health. If you decline Health access, scoring still works without them.

Can my partner see the score live?

Yes. Every point you tap reaches the iPhone and then Flobit, so the other players see it in the app, and anyone with the match's public live link can follow it in a browser without installing anything.

Does it work for padel as well as tennis?

Yes. Padel is scored point by point like tennis, with the golden point as the default. You can choose advantage instead and a super tiebreak for the deciding set when you create the match. The watch follows the format the match was created with.

What do I do if I tap the wrong point?

Swipe left to undo the last point. Undo needs the iPhone to be reachable, so if the watch says it is out of reach, wait until it is back in range. You can also lock the screen so a mis-tap doesn't happen in the first place.

Which versions do I need?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later with Flobit installed, and an Apple Watch running watchOS 10 or later. The watch app is part of the iPhone app, so there is nothing separate to download. Flobit is free.
