Table tennis app to find players, keep score and run tournaments

In short

Flobit is a free table tennis app. Post an open match to find a practice partner or a doubles pair nearby, score games to 11 point by point with the win-by-two rule built in, and run round robins, brackets or Mexicano nights for your club or office. It works on iPhone, Apple Watch and the web.

How do I find a table tennis practice partner near me?

Post an open match for table tennis, or browse the ones near you and ask to join. A practice partner, a singles game after work and the second pair for doubles all start the same way.

When you post, you pick singles or doubles, the match length, the time and the city or venue. Add a note of up to 280 characters, such as "casual rallies, bring your own bat", and choose who can join: anyone, men, women or mixed. A level range uses table tennis's three levels (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) and is shown on the listing so players know the level you want. You approve each request, so you can keep a first-timer from ending up across the net from a league regular. You approve whoever gets the spot.

Browsing is quick. Narrow the list to table tennis and to anytime, today or this week, then read each host's range and note, because the list itself has no level filter. Your search radius starts at 50 km and can be set from 5 to 100 km. Open matches in detail.

For the group that plays every lunchtime, a Quick Match lobby is faster than a listing: share the 8-character code, the QR code or the flobit.app/join link, and anyone can join, including guests without an account. Clubs and office teams can also use a community for chat, member standings and a top-players podium. Flobit doesn't book tables or venues, so agree where you will play in the listing.

How does table tennis scoring work in Flobit?

Flobit scores table tennis point by point, one game at a time. A game goes to 11 points and a side must lead by two, so 11–10 is not over but 12–10 is. Flobit applies the win-by-two rule for you.

SettingOptions in Flobit
Play typeSingles or doubles
Singles match lengthBest of 3, 5 or 7 games
Doubles match lengthBest of 5 games
Each gameFirst to 11 points, win by 2
ScoringPoint by point, with undo

These are the standard rules in the Laws of Table Tennis. A game is won by the first player or pair to 11 points, unless both reach 10, when the first to lead by two wins. A match is the best of an odd number of games. Service changes every 2 points, and from 10–10 each player serves for one point at a time.

In doubles, the pair with first service chooses who serves first and, in the opening game, the receivers choose who receives first. After each change of service the previous receiver serves while the server's partner receives. The same game rules apply, and the pair that serves first in a game receives first in the next.

Everything else works as in Flobit's other sports: undo, a public live page that friends can follow, a Live Activity on your lock screen, and Apple Watch scoring that works offline. A result confirms after 24 hours, and a casual result can be disputed during that window. See live scoring.

What table tennis level am I?

Table tennis uses three levels, not the 1.0–7.0 ladder that tennis and padel use. Beginner means new to it, or back after a long break. Intermediate means playing regularly and comfortable in a casual match. Advanced means played competitively, at club, college or semi-pro level. The descriptions are about experience rather than adjectives, which makes them easier to answer honestly.

Behind the level sits a table tennis rating that updates from confirmed results and is separate from your ratings in other sports. It starts between 900 and 1500 depending on the level you picked, or at 1000 if you skipped it. It swings more in your first 10 matches, while Flobit learns where you sit, it weighs doubles results against the opponents' average, and a disputed result is reversed.

The 1–5 star sportsmanship rating is separate again. You give it to your opponents after a match, you can edit one for 48 hours, and it can be hidden. Hosts of open matches can set a level range to show the level they want for a night of rallies, and the rating shows how you actually perform over time. How ratings work.

Can I run a table tennis tournament in Flobit?

Yes. Create a tournament in a community and choose singles or doubles. Flobit offers single elimination, double elimination, a league in which everyone plays everyone once or twice, group stage plus knockout, and Mexicano.

A few notes for table tennis. Singles tournaments can be best of 3, 5 or 7 games and doubles best of 5, chosen when you set the tournament up. Double elimination gives everyone a second life after a bad game, which suits friendly events. Mexicano turns a doubles night into an individual contest: players sign up alone, partners change every round, and the leaderboard ranks everyone by points scored or by winning margin. It needs at least four players.

On entry, you can approve players, keep a waitlist, let doubles pairs invite each other, add guests who have no account, and cap the field at anything from 2 to 512. If there is an entry fee, Flobit displays it but doesn't collect it. Referees, trophies and share cards are covered on the tournaments page.

How do I run a club night or an office tournament?

Start by counting matches. In a round robin, where everyone plays everyone once, the number of matches is n × (n − 1) ÷ 2, so it grows quickly.

PlayersRound-robin matchesRounds
463
6155
7217 (one player rests each round)
8287
10459
126611

Divide the matches by your number of tables to see how many time slots you need. If that is too many, change the format. Two groups of six play 15 matches each, then two semi-finals and a final add three more: 33 matches instead of 66. In Flobit that is group stage plus knockout. A single elimination bracket for 16 players needs only 15 matches, but half the field is out after one game, which rarely suits an office.

Not everyone will install an app. Add colleagues as guests, who need no account, and give a few people referee duty so you can run the schedule. For doubles with a mixed-ability crowd, a Mexicano keeps changing partners so everyone plays with and against everyone. The free round robin generator lays out a schedule if you want to check the numbers first, and the round robin guide explains how the rounds are built.

Where can I learn the table tennis rules?

The table tennis rules guide covers serves, lets, what happens at 10–10 and the order of play in doubles, with the same rules Flobit uses to score a game. If you are planning an event, the round robin schedule guide shows how to build rounds for any number of players, and live scoring shows what the score looks like on your phone and on the public page.

Read the rules guide once and you will rarely argue about a serve again. Flobit keeps the score so you can keep playing.

Frequently asked questions

How does table tennis scoring work?

A game is won by the first player or pair to reach 11 points, unless the score reaches 10–10, when the first to lead by two points wins. A match is the best of an odd number of games. In Flobit, singles can be best of 3, 5 or 7 games and doubles best of 5, and Flobit applies the win-by-two rule for you.

How many serves does each player get?

Under the ITTF Laws, service changes after every 2 points. Once the score reaches 10–10, each player serves for one point at a time until the game ends. The player or pair that served first in a game receives first in the next game, so the first serve alternates.

What happens at 10–10 in table tennis?

The game goes on until one side leads by two points, so 12–10 or 15–13 ends it but 11–10 does not. From 10–10 the service alternates after every point. Flobit follows this rule when it scores a game, so a game cannot end on a one-point lead after 10–10.

Are table tennis games played to 11 or 21?

Under the current ITTF Laws a game is played to 11 points, and Flobit uses 11 in every table tennis format. Singles matches are the best of 3, 5 or 7 games, and doubles matches are the best of 5.

How does serving work in table tennis doubles?

The pair with the right to serve first chooses which partner serves, and in the first game the receiving pair decides who receives first. After each change of service the previous receiver becomes the server and the previous server's partner becomes the receiver, so the order runs in a fixed cycle.

How do I find a table tennis practice partner?

Post an open match for table tennis with a time, a place and a note about your pace, or browse nearby listings and ask to join one. Pick Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced as a level range to show the kind of player you want. The host approves who joins.

How can I run an office table tennis tournament?

Create a tournament in a community, choose a league or group stage plus knockout, and add colleagues without the app as guests. Eight players need 28 matches in a full round robin, so a group stage with a knockout can save time. Referees can keep score while you run the schedule.

Can Flobit keep score for a table tennis match?

Yes. Flobit scores each game point by point, applies the win-by-two rule and keeps the match score across games. You can score from your iPhone or from an Apple Watch, where scoring works offline, and friends can follow on a public live page. Undo corrects a mistaken tap.

Is Flobit a free table tennis app?

Yes. Flobit is free to use, with no ads and no subscription. You get open matches, live scoring and tournaments on iPhone (iOS 17 or later), plus Apple Watch scoring and a web app at flobit.app. Android is coming soon.
