Ultimate frisbee app to find players, keep score and run tournaments

In short

Flobit is a free app for ultimate frisbee, which it calls Frisbee. Post an open match to find players near you, or share a Quick Match code with your regular group. Keep a live point tally for 7-a-side games to 15 or 5-a-side games to 13, and run team tournaments with brackets or leagues. It works on iPhone, Apple Watch and the web.

How do I find people to play ultimate frisbee near me?

Post an open match, or join one that a player nearby has posted. If you're new to ultimate, a pickup game is the easiest way in, and a Beginner level range tells the host what to expect. In the app the sport is listed as Frisbee.

Casual ultimate on Flobit is team play, and you don't need a registered team. The host picks 7-a-side or 5-a-side, the time and the city or venue, then players join one at a time until both sides are full. The host also chooses who can join (anyone, men, women or mixed), can set a level range of Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, and can add a note of up to 280 characters, such as "Sunday pickup, new players welcome, bring a light and a dark shirt". Players tell the host they're interested and the host approves who gets a place. The range is shown on the listing as guidance, and you approve each request.

If you're looking for a game, filter by Frisbee and by anytime, today or this week, then ask to join. The list has no level filter, so read each host's range and note first. Search covers 50 km around you by default (anything from 5 to 100 km), and a digest of open matches nearby arrives every day at 10:00. Open matches in detail.

A group that plays every week can skip the listing. Start a Quick Match, share the 8-character code, the QR code or the flobit.app/join link, and people join as players or as the referee. Guests don't need an account. A community gives a local club a chat, member standings and a top-players podium. Flobit doesn't book fields. Ask the park or the venue, then post the game.

What ultimate frisbee formats and scoring does Flobit support?

Flobit keeps a running point tally for each team. You choose the size of the game when you create the match.

FormatPlayers per sideA game ends when
7-a-side7A team reaches 15
5-a-side5A team reaches 13

The first team to reach the target wins. There is no win-by-two rule. The 7-a-side game follows the WFDF Rules of Ultimate: seven players on the field, a game won by the first team to score 15 goals, and half time when a team first scores 8. The 5-a-side format to 13 follows WFDF's beach ultimate rules, a shorter game that suits a smaller field.

One person taps a point for the team that scored, and undo reverses a mistaken tap. If someone joins the match as the referee, they can also record who scored. Ultimate is self-officiated, so Flobit adds no cards or fouls to it. The score is what matters, and the Spirit of the Game does the rest.

On iPhone you get a Live Activity and courtside mode, the Apple Watch app scores offline, and anyone can follow on the public live page. A result confirms automatically after 24 hours, and a casual result can be disputed within that window. See live scoring.

What ultimate frisbee level am I?

Pick Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Ultimate has no standard rating ladder like tennis, so Flobit uses plain words. Beginner means new to the game or back after a long break. Intermediate means you play regularly and are comfortable in a casual game. Advanced means you have played competitively, at club, college or semi-pro level. Choose the one you would give a stranger before a game. Hosts can set a level range on an open match. It is shown as guidance, and the host approves each request.

Flobit also keeps a separate ELO rating for each sport, so your ultimate rating is independent of your other sports. It starts between 900 and 1500 depending on the level you declared, or at 1000 if you declared none. How ratings work explains how it moves.

Ultimate asks players to officiate themselves, and the WFDF rules put the responsibility for fair play on every player. Flobit's separate 1–5 star sportsmanship rating fits that idea. You give it to the opponents you played against, it is kept apart from skill, you can edit it for 48 hours, and it can be hidden.

Can I run an ultimate frisbee tournament in Flobit?

Yes. Create the tournament inside a community and choose 7-a-side or 5-a-side. The formats are single elimination, double elimination, a league where every team plays every other once or twice, and group stage plus knockout. Pool play followed by a bracket suits a one-day event, because every team gets several games before anyone goes home, and a league suits a season. Tournament formats compares them.

Ultimate tournaments need Flobit teams. Each sport has its own team, with a captain, a co-captain and jersey numbers, and the captain enters the team. Each team names its lineup, the players it fields, for its games. Mixed events work through the Mixed category, and you can also set Men, Women or Open, plus an age range.

You can approve entries, keep a waitlist, add guests who have no account and cap the field anywhere from 2 to 512. An entry fee can be shown on the page, but Flobit doesn't collect it, so teams pay you offline. Up to 20 referees can keep the tally, the roster can be shared as a WhatsApp or Telegram message, and winners get trophies automatically. A community can run five tournaments at once. See tournaments.

How do I run a hat tournament or mixed ultimate?

In a hat tournament, players sign up on their own and the organizers put them into teams, so everyone meets new teammates. It suits groups where people don't already have a team. The SkyD Magazine guide for organizers suggests balancing the teams by each player's experience, athleticism and disc skills.

Flobit doesn't draw the teams for you, and tournaments need registered teams. A hat tournament therefore runs in two steps. First, collect the players, for example with an open match or in a community chat, and split them into even teams yourself. The fair teams guide shows ways to do that, and each player's Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced level helps. Second, have each team's captain create the team in Flobit and enter the tournament. From there Flobit handles the bracket or league, the referees, the results and the trophies.

Length matters. WFDF describes a typical game as played to 15 goals or around 100 minutes, so a day with many games calls for the shorter 5-a-side format to 13.

For mixed ultimate, choose mixed under who can join when you post an open match, or the Mixed category in a tournament. The WFDF rules say a form of an alternating 4:3 ratio of players should be used in mixed games, so put the ratio you play in the note and everyone knows before they ask to join.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find people to play ultimate frisbee near me?

Post an open match for Frisbee with your time, field and format (7-a-side or 5-a-side), or browse open matches near you and ask to join. Hosts approve who joins and can set a level range and an anyone, men, women or mixed preference. For a regular group, share a Quick Match code or start a community with chat.

How do I start playing ultimate frisbee as an adult?

Find a pickup game and join it as a Beginner. On Flobit, filter open matches by Frisbee, read each host's level range and note, and ask to join a game that welcomes new players. Or post your own with a note saying that beginners are welcome. The ultimate frisbee rules guide covers what to learn first.

How does ultimate frisbee scoring work?

A team scores a goal when a player catches a pass in the end zone it attacks. In the WFDF rules a game is won by the first team to score 15 goals, with half time at 8. Flobit keeps a point tally and offers 7-a-side to 15 and 5-a-side to 13, and the first team to reach the target wins.

Can I use Flobit as an ultimate frisbee score keeper?

Yes. Flobit keeps a live point tally, with undo, for 7-a-side games to 15 and 5-a-side games to 13. You can score from your iPhone or from an Apple Watch, which works offline, and friends can follow on a public live page. A referee can also record who scored.

What is a hat tournament, and can I run one on Flobit?

In a hat tournament, players sign up individually and organizers form the teams. Flobit doesn't draw teams, and its tournaments need registered teams. Split your players into teams yourself, have each team's captain create the team in Flobit and enter, and Flobit runs the bracket or league and keeps the results.

Do I need a team to play ultimate on Flobit?

Not for casual games. Players join a side one at a time in an open match or a Quick Match. Tournaments need Flobit teams, each with a captain, a co-captain and jersey numbers, and the captain enters the team.

Yes. Choose mixed under who can join when you post an open match, or the Mixed category when you create a tournament. The WFDF rules suggest an alternating 4:3 ratio in mixed games, so say in the note which ratio you play.

How do I make fair ultimate teams?

Flobit doesn't pick teams for you. Common fixes are captains picking in turns or splitting the strongest players first, and the fair teams guide walks through simple methods. A level range on the open match also helps keep the group close in ability before you split it.

Can I book a field for ultimate on Flobit?

No. Flobit doesn't book fields or courts. It shows venues near you on a map, with directions in Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze or Yandex, and you can suggest a venue that is missing. Ask the park or the venue, then post an open match for that slot.

Is Flobit a free ultimate frisbee app?

Yes. Flobit is free, with no ads and no subscription. You get open matches, live scoring and tournaments on iPhone (iOS 17 or later), plus Apple Watch scoring and a web app at flobit.app. Android is coming soon.
