Volleyball app to find players, keep score and run tournaments
In short
Flobit is a free volleyball app. Post an open match to find players for an indoor 6v6 game nearby, or share a Quick Match code with your regular group. Score rally points set by set, best of 3 or 5, and run tournaments with pools and brackets, including beach 2v2. It works on iPhone, Apple Watch and the web. It doesn't book courts.

How do I find volleyball players or an open gym near me?
Post an open match for the hall or court you already use, or join one that a player nearby has posted. Flobit connects players. It doesn't list the open-gym schedules of gyms or clubs.
Casual volleyball on Flobit is indoor 6v6 team play, and you don't need a registered team. The host picks the format, the time and the city or venue, then players join one at a time until both sides are full. The host also chooses who can join (anyone, men, women or mixed), can set a level range of Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, and can add a note of up to 280 characters, such as "social 6v6, knee pads recommended, bring a light and a dark shirt". Players tell the host they're interested and the host approves who gets a place. The range is shown on the listing as guidance, and you approve each request.
If you're the one looking for a game, filter by volleyball and by anytime, today or this week, then ask to join. The list has no level filter, so read each host's range and note first. Search covers 50 km around you by default (anything from 5 to 100 km), and a digest of open matches nearby arrives every day at 10:00. Open matches in detail.
A group that plays every week can skip the listing. Start a Quick Match, share the 8-character code, the QR code or the flobit.app/join link, and people join as players or as the referee. Guests don't need an account. A community gives the group a chat, member standings and a top-players podium.
Flobit doesn't book courts or halls. Book through the venue, then post the game.
What volleyball formats and scoring does Flobit support?
Flobit scores volleyball one point at a time and keeps the score set by set. In every format a set must be won by two points, so 25–24 plays on and 26–24 ends it.
| Format | Where you can play it | Match | Points per set |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indoor 6v6, best of 3 (the default) | Casual matches and tournaments | First to win 2 sets | 25, deciding third set to 15 |
| Indoor 6v6, best of 5 | Casual matches and tournaments | First to win 3 sets | 25, deciding fifth set to 15 |
| Beach 2v2, best of 3 | Tournaments | First to win 2 sets | 21, deciding third set to 15 |
These are the FIVB indoor rules: rally scoring, where the team that wins a rally scores a point, sets to 25 with a two-point lead, and a deciding set to 15. FIVB plays best of 5. Best of 3 is the shorter version many recreational groups prefer, so Flobit offers both.
One person taps the point for the side that won the rally, and undo reverses a mistaken tap. If someone joins the match as the referee, they can also log cards (a yellow card is a warning, a red card gives the opposing side the point), substitutions and timeouts. On iPhone you get a Live Activity and courtside mode, the Apple Watch app scores offline, and anyone can follow on the public live page. A result confirms automatically after 24 hours, and a casual result can be disputed within that window. See live scoring.
What volleyball level am I?
Pick Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Beginner means new to the game or back after a long break. Intermediate means you play regularly and are comfortable in a casual game. Advanced means you have played competitively, at club, college or semi-pro level. Choose the one you would give a stranger before a game, not the one that matches your best match.
Some recreational leagues grade players with letters such as B, BB, A and AA. Flobit doesn't use letter grades, so say more in the host's note if the group needs it, for example "rec B, pass-set-hit, no spikes please". Hosts can also set a level range on an open match. It is shown as guidance, and the host approves each request.
Flobit also keeps a separate ELO rating for each sport, so your volleyball rating is independent of your other sports. It starts between 900 and 1500 depending on the level you declared, or at 1000 if you declared none. How ratings work explains how it moves. A separate 1–5 star sportsmanship rating, which you give the opponents you played against, is kept apart from skill, can be edited for 48 hours and can be hidden.
Can I run a volleyball tournament with pools and a bracket?
Yes. Create the tournament inside a community and choose indoor 6v6 teams or beach 2v2 pairs. The formats are single elimination, double elimination, a league where everyone plays everyone once or twice, and group stage plus knockout.
Group stage plus knockout is the same idea as pool play followed by a bracket. Teams play everyone in their pool, and the best of each pool go through to the knockout. With eight teams in two pools of four, that is 12 pool matches, then two semi-finals and a final: 15 matches in all. A single elimination bracket for the same eight teams needs only 7, but half the field leaves after one match. Tournament formats compares them.
Indoor tournaments need Flobit teams. Each sport has its own team, with a captain, a co-captain and jersey numbers, and the captain enters the team. Each team names its lineup, the players who take the court, for its matches. Beach pairs enter with a partner instead, and a partner can be invited.
Beyond that you can approve entries, keep a waitlist, add guests who have no account, and set categories (Men, Women, Mixed or Open), an age range and a cap of 2 to 512. An entry fee can be shown on the page, but Flobit doesn't collect it. Up to 20 referees can score matches, winners get trophies automatically, and a community can run five tournaments at once. See tournaments.
Can I play beach volleyball or mixed doubles on Flobit?
Beach volleyball is available in tournaments, not in casual matches. A beach tournament uses the 2v2 format: best of 3 sets, the first two to 21 and a deciding third set to 15, each won by two points. That matches the FIVB beach rules, where teams also switch sides every 7 points in the first two sets and every 5 points in the third. For a beach doubles day, create a small tournament, invite pairs and let the bracket or the pool table do the scheduling. Casual matches use the indoor 6v6 format today.
For mixed play there are two places to say it. When you post an open match, choose mixed under who can join. In a tournament, choose the Mixed category. House rules such as "at least two women on court" belong in the note, so everybody reads them before they ask to join.
Fair sides matter more in volleyball than in most sports, because one strong hitter can decide a rotation. Flobit doesn't pick teams for you. A level range helps keep the group close in ability, and the fair teams guide shows simple ways to split everyone evenly.
Where can I learn volleyball rules and organizing tips?
Pick the guide that matches your question:
- How does the game work? Volleyball rules covers rally scoring, rotation and the beach game.
- How do we split into fair teams? The fair teams guide covers simple ways to even out a group.
- Which tournament format fits? Tournament formats compares knockouts, round robins and pool play with match counts.
Flobit looks after the people and the score. The net, the ball and the hall stay with you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find volleyball players or an open gym near me?
Filter open matches by volleyball and by today or this week, then ask to join one, or post your own with the venue, time and a level range. The search radius starts at 50 km and can be set between 5 and 100 km. Flobit doesn't list gym open-gym schedules, so it works best for the hall your group already uses.
How does volleyball scoring work?
Volleyball uses rally scoring: the team that wins a rally scores a point. A set goes to 25 with a two-point lead, and a deciding set goes to 15. Flobit follows these rules and offers indoor 6v6 as best of 3 (the default) or best of 5, and beach 2v2 in tournaments as best of 3 sets to 21 with a decider to 15.
Can I use Flobit as a volleyball score keeper?
Yes. Flobit scores volleyball point by point and keeps the score set by set, with undo. You can score from your iPhone or from an Apple Watch, which works offline, and friends can follow on a public live page. A referee can also log cards, substitutions and timeouts.
Do I need a registered team to play volleyball on Flobit?
Not for casual games. Players join a side one at a time in an open match or a Quick Match. Indoor 6v6 tournaments need Flobit teams, each with a captain, a co-captain and jersey numbers. Beach 2v2 tournaments take pairs, who can invite a partner when they enter.
Can I play beach volleyball on Flobit?
Beach volleyball is available in tournaments: beach 2v2, best of 3 sets, the first two to 21 and a deciding third set to 15. Casual open matches and Quick Matches use the indoor 6v6 format. For a beach doubles day, create a small tournament and invite pairs.
How do I run a pool play and bracket volleyball tournament?
Create a tournament in a community and choose group stage plus knockout. Teams play a pool, the best of each pool go into a bracket, and standings update as results are confirmed. Eight teams in two pools of four take 15 matches. Team captains enter, and you can approve entries and keep a waitlist.
Can I organize mixed or coed volleyball?
Yes. Choose mixed under who can join when you post an open match, or the Mixed category when you create a tournament. Put your house rules, such as a minimum number of women on court, in the note so players read them before asking to join.
How do I make fair volleyball teams?
Flobit doesn't pick teams for you. Common fixes are captains picking in turns or splitting the strongest hitters and setters first, and the fair teams guide walks through simple methods. A level range on the open match helps keep the group close in ability before you split it.
Can I book a volleyball court on Flobit?
No. Flobit doesn't book courts or halls. It shows courts and venues near you on a map, with surfaces, reviews and directions in Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze or Yandex, and you can suggest a venue that is missing. Book through the venue, then post an open match for that slot.
Is Flobit a free volleyball app?
Yes. Flobit is free, with no ads and no subscription. You get open matches, live scoring and tournaments on iPhone (iOS 17 or later), plus Apple Watch scoring and a web app at flobit.app. Android is coming soon.
