Where to play sport in Baku: padel, tennis, football and more

In short

Baku (Bakı) has padel courts at around eight clubs, tennis on hard and clay courts, mini-football pitches, and events and clubs for beach volleyball, basketball and ultimate frisbee. To find people to play with, reserve a court, then post an open match in Flobit, join a community, or sign up with a local league or club. Baku is the 2026 World Capital of Sport.

Why is 2026 a big year for sport in Baku?

Baku has the title of World Capital of Sport for 2026. Report.az reported on 16 December 2025 that the title was handed over from Monaco, which held it in 2025, at a ceremony attended by the Azerbaijani sports minister and a delegation from ACES Europe, the organization that awards it.

The 2026 calendar includes several events. FIP Bronze Baku II, a CUPRA FIP Tour padel event, ran from 1 to 5 July. The FIBA 3x3 Women's Series stopped in Baku on 18 and 19 July and at Sea Breeze Resort on 15 and 16 August. A mixed beach volleyball tournament at the Baku Water Sports Palace was reported on 2 August, and a city tournament for 3x3 basketball in renovated courtyards ran in April and May. The Tennis.az club, which runs an amateur league, reported the results of its Caspian Cup between 17 and 20 July.

For an amateur, the title changes less than you might hope. A weekly game still depends on three things: a court or pitch, enough people, and a time that suits everyone. The rest of this page covers where to find each, sport by sport, and the three local guides go deeper.
