Pickup football in Baku: pitches, leagues and how to find a game
In short
To play pickup football in Baku, reserve a mini-football pitch (mini futbol meydançası) through a booking app such as Meydança, or join a game that already has spots left through AzFut or a Flobit open match. Each venue sets its own pitch price, so check before you commit. Flobit doesn't book pitches; it helps you fill both teams and keep the score.
Where can I play football in Baku?
Casual games in Baku are organized around the pitch. A small-sided pitch is a mini futbol meydançası (mini-football pitch), or just a meydança (pitch), and the local apps list pitch sizes from 6-a-side to 11-a-side. Here is what we could verify on 11 October 2026:
- Baku Olympic Stadium. A SOCAR page about the stadium says the complex has four covered "Sportster" mini-courts that are used all year round, plus natural-grass reserve pitches. Azerbaijani Wikipedia says the Mini Futbol Liqası (see below) plays on Sportster pitches.
- Baku Tennis Academy. Besides its tennis courts, the academy at İbrahimpaşa Dadaşov 157 in Binəqədi has a football pitch. Its site says the surface is Limonta turf made in Italy, with changing rooms, showers and parking, and advertises two hours for the price of one on Saturdays after 18:00.
- Pitches on the map. OpenStreetMap, the map data behind Flobit's venue file, tags 17 football grounds inside Baku. Most are stadiums or club and academy grounds that are not set up for drop-in rental, such as the Tofiq Bəhramov Republican Stadium, Bakcell Arena and Spartak Stadium. Two are named for mini-football: "Mini Futbol", about 5.5 km from the centre, and "NMini", about 11 km out. OpenStreetMap gives no prices or opening hours, so treat these as pins to check, not a booking list.
We couldn't verify a published hourly price for any single Baku mini-football pitch. Meydança's FAQ says each venue sets its own price, and AzFut shows the price of each game on its own page, so look there for the current number.
How do I reserve a mini-football pitch in Baku?
Use a booking app or call the venue. Meydança (meydancaapp.az) is a booking app for football pitches in Azerbaijan, and its first network is in Baku. You pick a pitch from the map or list, tap a free hour and send a booking request, and the venue confirms. The app shows the venue, price, rating and which hours are free. An account is free and opens with your phone number and an SMS code. It works on iOS, Android and in a browser, and players pay the pitch fee at the pitch.
The verbs to look for in Azerbaijani are bron et (reserve) and boş saat (free hour). Meydança lets a booker who is short of players post a listing to fill the missing places.
Flobit doesn't book pitches. The order that works is to reserve the pitch first, then post the game in Flobit with the venue and time so the other players can find it. For other apps that take bookings in Baku, see sports apps in Azerbaijan.
How do I join a football game in Baku if I don't have a team?
Join a game that already has a spot. Three tools work in Baku, and many players use more than one:
- AzFut (azfut.app) shows amateur games in Baku with spots left. You choose a time and a pitch and take a place with one tap, and you don't need a team. Games run as 6×6, 7×7, 8×8 or 11×11. Each game shows the squad's average level, the format and the price, and the app splits players into two teams by rating. It is free to use, and it only works in Baku for now.
- Meydança's "Oyun tap" (find a game). You filter open games by day and district. Each game lists the format, time, price per player, the positions the organizer still needs and how many places are left. You can join at once or send a request if the organizer approves players.
- Flobit open matches. A host posts football as a 5-, 7- or 11-a-side game with the venue, the time, who can join (anyone, men, women or mixed) and an optional level range of Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Players within your radius, 50 km by default, ask to join and the host approves them. Use the 280-character note to say what's missing, for example "need a goalkeeper, bibs provided". Open matches explains the steps.
If you are only one or two players short, post the match as soon as the pitch is booked and name the position you need.
Are there amateur football leagues in Baku?
Yes, mostly in mini-football. The Mini Futbol Liqası (MFL) is an amateur league that, according to Azerbaijani Wikipedia, was founded in 2015 by Sport Marketing Group and is overseen with the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA). Its format splits clubs into two conferences, A and B. Each conference plays a single round-robin, the top six teams in each go straight into the play-offs and teams in 7th to 10th place fight for four more places, making 16 teams in the knockout stage. One game is played per round, with no second legs. Games are played on Sportster pitches. That description and its club list date from earlier seasons, and we couldn't open mfl.az on 11 October 2026, so confirm the current season and how to enter before you plan around it.
The sport has a profile in Baku beyond leagues. The Azerbaijan Minifootball Federation was established on 29 September 2017, and the 2025 WMF Minifootball World Cup was played in Baku at the National Gymnastics Arena from 21 May to 1 June 2025, with hosts Azerbaijan beating Hungary 4-2 in the final.
If you want your own league or cup among friends or colleagues, run it in a Flobit community. The tournament formats are single and double elimination, a league where every team plays the others once or twice, and group stage plus knockout, with draws allowed in leagues and penalties in knockouts. Each team has a captain, and up to 20 referees can score matches and log cards. Read tournament formats to choose. Entry fees can be shown on the page but are paid to the organizer offline.
How do I keep a regular football game going in Baku?
Give the game a fixed slot and a way to confirm it. A pitch booked for the same hour each week is easier to fill than a new plan each time, and the biggest threat is the player who says yes and doesn't turn up. The no-shows guide and the guide to organizing pickup games cover the habits that work.
In Flobit, share a Quick Match code, a QR code or a flobit.app/join link in your group chat, and people join as players or as the referee. Guests don't need an account. If the same group plays every week, a community gives it a chat, member standings and a top-players podium. After the game, you can rate the opponents you played against for sportsmanship, from 1 to 5 stars.
Split the teams fairly with the fair teams guide, and check the rules for your format in the five-a-side and futsal rules. Scoring covers goals, and a referee can log scorers, cards and substitutions, with undo and a public live page for anyone who couldn't come. See football on Flobit. Flobit is made in Baku, and the app speaks Azerbaijani, Russian and English.
