Tennis in Baku: courts, prices and finding a partner
In short
You can play tennis at five main venues in Baku, on hard courts and on red clay. On 11 October 2026 an hour on court cost about 20 to 70 AZN. To find a partner, join the monthly Tennis.az league, which sorts amateurs into groups, or post an open match in Flobit with a level range and the court you have reserved.
Where can I play tennis in Baku?
The table above lists the five venues that the TennisGo court directory shows for tennis in Baku (Bakı) on 11 October 2026. Three of them publish their own details, and they are the best-documented:
- Baku Tennis Academy opened on 5 May 2009 in the 8th microdistrict of Binəqədi, on 2.7 hectares. Its site says all courts have a hard-court surface and lists six open courts plus indoor courts and a covered centre court. The academy's own pages give slightly different indoor counts, so ask when you reserve.
- Baku Tennis Club is a 16,000 m² club in central Baku, built around outdoor red clay courts that are smoothed, watered and brushed every morning. It has three indoor hard courts, priced from October 2026, and two padel courts.
- Tennis.az is a club that has been running since March 2007 under changing names, and has used the Tennis.az name since 15 June 2022. It operates at 77 Samad Vurgun Street and runs the amateur league described below.
Clay is rare: Baku Tennis Club is the only venue in the table with clay, according to TennisGo. The rest are hard courts. Indoor courts let you play through the winter and rain, and the academy, the Tennis.az courts, Ganjlik Sport Center and Baku Tennis Club all have some.
How much does it cost to play tennis in Baku?
An hour on a court costs about 20 to 70 AZN in Baku, as of 11 October 2026. TennisGo's own FAQ gives an average of 20 to 60 AZN, and the range depends on the surface, whether the court is indoor and the time of day. The price buys the court. Rackets, balls and a coach are extras.
Baku Tennis Club publishes the clearest rate card, per 55-minute slot:
| Court | Time | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Outdoor clay | 07:00–12:00 | 25 AZN |
| Outdoor clay | 12:00–17:00 | 20 AZN |
| Outdoor clay | 17:00–00:00 | 30 AZN |
| Outdoor clay, 4 players | any time | 40 AZN |
| Indoor hard, singles | 07:00–17:00 / 17:00–00:00 | 40 AZN / 60 AZN |
| Indoor hard, doubles | 07:00–17:00 / 17:00–00:00 | 50 AZN / 70 AZN |
The same club lists a racket at 5 AZN, a basket of balls at 20 AZN and stringing at 50 AZN. TennisGo lists Tennis.az courts at 25 AZN an hour and Baku Tennis Academy at 25 to 50 AZN. It lists Ganjlik Sport Center at 30 to 60 AZN and Sea Breeze Resort at 70 AZN.
Midday is the cheap time. The academy's own site advertises indoor courts for 20 AZN an hour on weekdays from 11:00 to 14:00, and two hours for the price of one on its tennis courts on Sundays after 16:00. Treat those as offers to confirm, because TennisGo recorded a rise on 1 October 2026 and reported a weekday indoor rate of 30 AZN from 07:00 to 15:00. TennisGo also logged a rise at Ganjlik Sport Center on 1 September, from 21–47 to 30–60 AZN.
How do I reserve a tennis court in Baku?
Reserve with the venue. Tennis.az links to an online booking page from its site, Baku Tennis Club takes bookings by phone (its site lists 012 564 56 22), and Baku Tennis Academy lists an administrator number. TennisGo shows hours, phone numbers and, for several courts, live availability, and Challengers (challengers.az) lists partner courts in Baku too. Sports apps in Azerbaijan compares these tools.
Flobit doesn't book courts. Reserve first, then post the game. Cancel early: Baku Tennis Club asks you to cancel by phone at least 24 hours ahead.
Are there tennis leagues and tournaments for amateurs in Baku?
Yes. The best-known is the Tennis.az league, which the club says has run monthly since November 2018 and brings together more than 100 amateurs. The league's rulebook sets out how it works:
- Groups. Players are sorted by strength into tiers (a 1st league, then groups such as 2A and 2B, down to 5H). Newcomers usually start in the lower leagues.
- Matches. Each month you play everyone in your group. The league says this guarantees 5 to 7 matches. You and your opponent agree the time and play on any court, and the winner sends the score to the organizer.
- Scoring. A best-of-three-sets match, where a third-set tiebreak is allowed by agreement. A win is 1 point and a loss 0.
- Moves. Group winners move up at the end of the month and the last-placed player moves down.
- Cost. The monthly fee is 30 AZN, with a total prize fund of 2,000 AZN. A player who cancels on the day takes a technical defeat and pays for the court.
The club also runs one-off tournaments. Its news page shows the Caspian Cup 2026, with results posted from 17 to 20 July 2026 and categories that include NTRP mixed doubles, and a Republic Day Cup on 28 May 2026. The Azerbaijan Tennis Federation's site lists tournament registration and the Baku City Championship, played at Baku Tennis Academy from 22 to 27 June 2026. TennisGo runs a tournaments page too, which on 11 October 2026 showed no upcoming events. Its FAQ says some are basket-draw events, where you enter alone and pairs are formed.
How do I find a tennis partner in Baku?
There are three routes, and they work well together.
The league. The Tennis.az league solves the problem of finding someone at your level by assigning your opponents for the month. It is the most structured option, and it costs 30 AZN a month.
Flobit open matches. Reserve a court, then post an open match: tennis, the venue and time, singles or doubles, and who can join (anyone, men, women or mixed). Add a level range on the 1.0 to 7.0 scale. It is shown on the listing so players know the level you want, and you approve each request. Players within your search radius, 50 km by default, ask to join, and you approve each one. If you need a fourth for doubles, say so in the 280-character note. The tennis levels guide helps you choose your number, and the guide to finding a tennis partner covers the habits that keep a partnership going. Flobit is made in Baku and has an Azerbaijani, Russian and English app.
Clubs and coaches. Many coaches offer a trial lesson, and a lesson is a way to meet other players. Baku Tennis Club lists sparring with a coach at 30 AZN, or 50 AZN with its head coach. TennisGo's coach directory showed individual lessons at about 30 to 70 AZN an hour for coaches who publish a price on 11 October 2026, and its FAQ says group sessions cost less.
After you play, Flobit keeps the score point by point, with undo, spoken score calls and Apple Watch scoring, and the result updates your per-sport rating once it is confirmed. See tennis on Flobit.
